Our report deep dives into John Ellerman Foundation’s UKOT Overseas Territories Fund, which so far has distributed over £1.8 million in two funding rounds across 10 territories. The UKOTs fund is a bold and inspiring step to address the funding gap for environmental activities in the UKOTs. The initiative aims to not just provide financial support, but also to create lasting change and support activities, such as practical conservation, capacity building, policy and advocacty and land acquisition.
The Fund has been successful thus far and enabled urgent conservation activities and specific achievements, such as the creation of coral biobanks, national parks and groundbreaking researched.
Funding has also bolstered the capacity of local environmental organisations, allowing them to deliver more impactful and sustained conservation efforts, and leverage further funding.
These successes are just the beginning. John Ellerman Foundation aims to launch a new funding round in 2025, a move strongly supported by EFN’s review findings.
For any funder looking to help protect globally significant ecosystems and at-risk species, we warmly encourage them to read the report and find out why supporting the UKOTs Fund is an exciting and strategic choice.
