Currently environmental philanthropy receives a growing but still small fraction of grants from UK sources. Our latest research looks at the role of wealth advisors within the environmental philanthropy ecosystem and importantly asks what we can do to encourage advisors to help increase philanthropy giving to the environmental sector.

Through in-depth interviews with 60 wealth advisors and high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), Exploring the role of wealth advisors in green giving investigates the factors preventing more HNWIs from becoming involved in green giving and why many advisors feel unable to guide their clients effectively in this area.

Our key findings discuss:

  • Barriers facing advisors and HNWIs, such as lack of confidence and knowledge and being overwhelmed by environmental issues.
  • Opportunities for the environmental philanthropy sector, such as the role of Next Gen philanthropists and pooled funds.
  • The role of EFN and environmental groups, such as raising the profile of excellent resources already out there and the importance of systemic change through sector-wide knowledge sharing.

The report includes how the challenges might be overcome and outlines the important role that EFN can play in providing the support, resources, and collaboration necessary to facilitate the systemic change required.
