What we do
We support fundraisers and environmental groups to be as effective as possible. Through our Green Fundraisers Forum, learning programmes and research, we help those in the environmental sector bring in more funds, strengthen their communications, connect with one another and improve their resilience and wellbeing. We help funders and fundraisers learn from one another and enable the entire sector to work together more effectively. We are not a funder, nor can we aid connections with funders.
Below we introduce our learning programmes, events and initiatives that you can get involved with.
Green Fundraisers Forum
Our Green Fundraisers Forum (GFF) provides a space for UK and international fundraisers from the environment sector to connect and learn. With a thriving online community, events (in person and online) and resources, the GFF supports collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the sector.
Scotland
Given its wealth of habitats and species, work to protect and restore Scotland’s environment is vital, but has long been underfunded by private philanthropy. EFN works to support funders and fundraisers who are focused on supporting nature for everyone’s benefit in Scotland. Our bespoke Scotland programme is a microcosm of our wider work tailored to the specific context in Scotland.
Rapid Response Fund
Working in the environmental sector is never predictable. The Rapid Response Fund (RRF) helps organisations respond swiftly to unexpected opportunities or respond to unanticipated crises that have a potentially significant environmental outcome. Since the launch of the RRF in 2018, over £1.1 million has been awarded to a wide variety of organisations and projects.
Further support for fundraisers
We collaborate with various partners to support learning programmes and initiatives that help strengthen the work of environmental groups, fundraisers and the wider sector.
Inter-Narratives
Inter-Narratives is for anyone working with narrative to support a regenerative, just world, bringing together people from across the climate, new economy, social justice sectors and more. The community meets regularly to discuss narrative change and the role it plays in systems change, share intelligence and hear from expert speakers.
Sustainable Wellbeing Environment Network (SWEN)
SWEN is an open and free network for anyone in the environmental movement who wants to explore ways of working that respond to some of the environmental movement’s biggest challenges, such as burnout and lack of diversity.
Green Match Fund
The Green Match Fund is an annual, seven-day online match funding campaign dedicated to helping charities playing a vital role in tackling pressing environmental issues run in partnership with the Big Give.
The Funding Network (TFN)
TFN is an open network which links potential donors to small nonprofits through crowdfunding events. TFN funds across the spectrum of need and all projects drive social change. We help nominate environmental groups to pitch at their events. There are limited opportunities, but get in touch with the EFN team if interested.
Green Fundraisers Forum
Join our Green Fundraisers Forum (GFF) and connect with over 1,000 individuals and non-profit groups working to build a thriving and sustainable future. Joining is free and you’ll enjoy access to an engaged, online community of fellow fundraisers, resources and learning opportunities.

Increasing the effectiveness of environmental funder-fundraiser relationships
There is a serious shortfall in finance for the environment sector, which receives less than 9% of funding awarded by UK trusts and foundations. While one solution is to grow the available funding, another important strategy is to increase its effectiveness, ensuring maximum impact for every pound spent.
Resources for environmental fundraisers
A collection of resources for environmental fundraisers in the GFF and beyond, including websites, videos, articles and reports.
Funding opportunities database
A living spreadsheet of funding opportunities for environmental fundraisers, maintained by our team at EFN.
Where the Green Grants Went 9
In the ninth edition of our Where the Green Grants Went report series, we analyse over 6,555 grants awarded by UK trust, foundations and lottery sources to environmental causes from 2021/22. WTGGW9 includes a new section dedicated to exploring what effective philanthropy looks like and how it may be implemented by environmental funders.
