How is EFN supporting the philanthropy community at such a challenging moment?

We help grow environmental funding. We support individuals, foundations and philanthropy networks to start giving to environmental causes or to give more. We also engage with wealth and philanthropy advisors, and have a growing informal network of ‘next generation’ funders. Through our partnership with the Big Give, Earth Raise raised an incredible £8.1 million in 2025 and £10.9 million in 2026. That means since 2021, Earth Raise has raised £34.2 million for hundreds of environmental charities.

We help funders be more effective. Research, especially our flagship Where the Green Grants Went series, reveals where funding gaps are and how funders may go about addressing them effectively. In 2025, our Scotland Edition of Where the Green Grants Went 9 supported Scottish funders and fundraisers to better understand the needs within the Scottish environment movement. Our curated programme of events platform diverse experts to share knowledge and best practices. The popular Stepping Up series brings environmental champions like Robin Wall Kimmerer, Chris Packham and Johann Rockström to share bespoke insights for environmental philanthropists.  

We help funders collaborate. Whether you joined our 2025 Scotland Field Trip, Members Retreat, one of our other field trips or quarterly member lunches, we regularly offer welcoming and engaging spaces for you to meet your peers, environmental groups and experts. Our Funder Interest Groups (FIGs) offer a space to deep dive into specific topics or act with fellow funders on specific interventions. We now have five active FIGs: Freshwater Funders Group, Climate Funders Group, Environment Impact Investing Group, UK Overseas Territories Funders Group and the Food & Farming Group.

We help fundraisers and environmental groups thrive. The Green Fundraisers Forum continues to grow rapidly – in 2025 it grew by 37% alone – reflecting a strong need for fundraisers and environmental groups to come together and learn. We held the first Nature Retreat for Fundraisers in 2025, which proved hugely successful. In Scotland, our partnership with I.G. Advisors allowed us to support 60 senior Scottish leaders in the environment and natural heritage sectors to take part in a bespoke leadership programme.

We help shift the environmental funding system. We held our first online conference for funders and fundraisers to help rethink the environmental funding system – asking if we all pulled in the same direction, what could be possible. EFN is uniquely placed to hold this conversation as a trusted convenor, allowing us all to move more effectively as a joined up ecosystem.
