Become an EFN member and join over 300 different foundations, trusts, individual donors and advisors working to build a thriving and sustainable future. Members enjoy exclusive access to funder-only events, spaces and opportunities. You’ll learn from experts on key environmental and climate issues, connect with other funders and better understand the landscape of environmental funding.

Our mission is to support effective environmental philanthropy, so we do not require a membership fee to join; we just ask for voluntary membership contributions annually.

About EFN Membership

EFN membership is open to foundations, trusts, individual donors and advisors working on, or with an interest in, climate and/or environmental issues. Our members have diverse interests, from the protection of species and habitats to tackling systemic issues to clean air and more.  

Environmental problems intersect with most other philanthropic causes, from health and well-being to economic prosperity and injustice, and this intersectional approach is reflected in our membership. For many members, environmental issues are not their sole or only priority. We warmly welcome all funders who are interested in environmental issues.

EFN membership is free. Each year, we ask members to consider paying a membership contribution based on a sliding scale related to total annual environmental grantmaking. This is voluntary and all contributions help EFN continue our work supporting members and the wider environmental sector. 

EFN members enjoy the following benefits:

  • Programme of funder-only events, curated by EFN’s expert team to help funder learning and featuring leading experts on specific issues, approaches and practices.
  • Connect and collaborate with other funders, including online and in-person networking, access to our funder-only Slack group and invites to funder groups on specific issues, for example the Climate Funders Group. 
  • Resources, research and strategic communications, including our popular monthly newsletter and learning from a variety of publications, blogs, podcasts and videos on wide-ranging issues aimed at helping funders be more effective.
  • Helping EFN’s wider work on supporting environmental groups, where EFN aims to bring funders and fundraisers together to help learn from one another and enable the entire sector to work together more effectively.

We ask all members to read and agree to abide by our Code of Respect before joining. We have a Partnerships Policy that explains who can be a member of EFN and who we will and will not work with.
