Our recent report exploring the challenges faced by fundraisers highlighted the difficulty of finding funding for using, collecting and optimising data. In this new series, we’re starting with the assumption that we would all use our data better, not just for a one off report, but on an on-going basis growing our understanding of an issue and in turn improving the outcomes of our work.
In the first session we dove into baselines in a conservation context. We explored the importance of baseline data, challenges with data collection, and how organisations like African Mountain Research and Alderney Wildlife Trust record, use and share their data.
We heard about two of African Mountain Research’s current programmes, the first one helping to build a community of mountain science practice and the second, using the mountains to generate valuable high elevation hydro-meteorological data. We also explored baseline data in Alderney, using Northern Gannet population size and breeding success as a case study. We heard how this data is crucial for understanding the health of colonies.
Our Speakers:
Tara Cox, Senior Ecologist, Alderney Wildlife Trust
Clara Hickman, Director, African Mountain Research
