When you think about the UK’s biodiversity, what comes to mind? Hedgehogs? Red squirrels? Maybe an all-too rare turtle dove?

There are about 90 species unique to mainland Britain, compared to an incredible 3,300 in the UK Overseas Territories (UKOTs). Nearly half of these are considered threatened and many are yet to be assessed. Sadly some are already extinct.

Yet organisations looking after the UKOTs on the ground (or ocean!) face many challenges to protect and enhance these natural environments.

In our second event in the UKOTs Learning Series in partnership with John Ellerman Foundation, you will learn about these challenges from the local organisations experiencing them first hand. Our speakers:

  • Laura Shearer, Coastal Reserves Manager and Councillor, Ascension Island
  • Esther Bertram, CEO, Falklands Conservation
  • Sarah Havery, Head of UK Overseas Territories, RSPB
