Following a six-month strategy phase, the Earth Funding Lab is now welcoming new participants. The first step on that journey is taking part in the Basecamp Programme – more on this below. First, let me remind you what the Earth Funding Lab is and why it came about in the first place.

What is the Earth Funding Lab?

The Earth Funding Lab is a community of funders and philanthropists who are learning and working together towards an economy that truly serves all life.

Alongside a year-round, cutting-edge learning programme, the Earth Funding Lab hosts multiple collaborative action groups on strategic intervention areas such as tax, investment and rights of nature, as well as collective inquiries into innovative philanthropic practices and emerging opportunity areas.

The Lab is a place to see the bigger picture of possible change together, coordinate action around key areas of need, and learn and adapt quickly as a community.

The Earth Funding Lab is an EFN project delivered in partnership with the Bio-Leadership Project and the Teal Collective.

Why was the Earth Funding Lab created?

The Earth Funding Lab was created on the premise that we cannot rely on traditional methods of funding alone in order to meet the unprecedented challenges our world faces. If we continue using the same methods, we are likely to continue seeing the same results and the same rate of change.

The Earth Funding Lab is therefore a call to evolve the systems and structures behind funding in order to support greater and more systemic forms of impact, and more sustainable and generative change.

What is the Basecamp Programme?

The Basecamp Programme is a two-month journey combining time in nature with virtual sessions hosted by leading thinkers and practitioners. In this vibrant training programme we introduce models for thinking and working more systemically, share stories of alternative forms of funding, open space to explore how to support life-centred economic models, and sow the seeds for a more systemic, collaborative way of working.

The next Basecamp Programme begins in September 2025 and is open to all types and sizes of funding entities, from individual philanthropists to foundations. If you believe that we can generate greater impact by changing not only what we fund but how we fund, register your interest below.

Once the Basecamp Programme is complete, we invite people to become members of the Lab and join an active workstream or initiate a new one. Funders are also welcome to participate in the Basecamp programme without joining the Lab community.
