In February 2023, the Environmental Funders Network (EFN) and Climate 2025 launched the Climate Activist Speaker Fund (CASF) pilot to support young global climate activists. The program, developed with input from young activists from MAPA communities, addresses issues such as funding barriers and limited access to audiences.
This publication shares insights into important elements in the approach taken during the selection process of activists. The hope is that these insights will serve to inspire other funders to experiment with and share learnings from diverse approaches. The insights are split into four key areas:
- Building shared understandings of selection criteria
- Managing bias and accounting for cultural difference
- Centering wellbeing and duty of care
- Making the ‘right’ decisions
