About EFN

The Environmental Funders Network (EFN) is a network of trusts, foundations and individuals making grants on environmental and conservation issues.

The Environmental Funders Network’s mission is to increase the overall level of financial support for environmental causes and to help environmental philanthropy to be as effective as it can be. Towards these ends, we have three main strands of work:

  • Relationship building: networking members with each other and with effective environmental organisations. EFN hosts quarterly lunches and an annual two-day retreat for funders, and our members themselves host several other events for fellow funders throughout the year
  • Intelligence sharing: aggregating the collective intelligence of our members through our publications, events and our monthly newsletters to funders
  • Research: analysing the funding landscape to help funders give more effectively

See our strategy for 2023-2026, our theory of change and our Annual Report 2022. Our Partnerships Policy, which explains who EFN will and won’t work with, is here.

Since EFN’s inception in 2003, trustees and staff members of over 270 different trusts, foundations and individual donors who support environmental work in the UK and abroad have participated in the network.

Contact us to find out about becoming a member, or learn more about how EFN members are encouraged to contribute.

There are a number of networks around the world, similar to EFN, that exist to support environmental donors.  We have listed some here.
